Ever wished you had more time to really work on the technique to step-through? Are you looking for better alignment in your chaturanga? Perhaps you’ve heard your teacher give mysterious options to “jump back” or “jump through”.
Often these small journeys, or transitions, between poses can become secondary, raced through in an attempt to minimise the effort required to move from A to B. Sometimes we actually confine these subtle movements to the category of being a nuisance, even secondary to the overall practice.
In this session, we’ll discuss, breakdown and have plenty of fun playing with the tools and techniques to hop, glide and float your way from posture to posture. Just like life, the journey we take to get to our destination is often the bit where we learn the most. Discovering new ways to tackle those tricky elusive transitions can be a fantastic way to modify and open your asana practice to new challenges.
What to expect
The workshop will explore familiar transitions, with an emphasis on embracing the challenge and learning how to be comfortable with the awkward journeys in our practice, which we often avoid or cheat our way through.
- Lowering through knees-chin-chest and chaturanga
- Jump Back and Jump Forward
- Step Through and Step Back
By the end of the session, you will understand the techniques you’ll need to refocus your practice, accepting that the path taken is no less important than the destination.
Who’s it for?
This workshop is for those who want to explore the art of transitions and fill the gaps between each posture with safe and meaningful movement. Practitioners, who already have a regular practice and enjoy the dynamic element of poses, will learn how each transition teaches us to be strong and fluid, re-energising their practice.
