We’re delighted to welcome Catherine Annis back to Whitespace! She is well known for her Scaravelli inspired practice and teaching which focuses on deepening physical awareness and alignment to reveal the natural freedom of the body, particularly the spine.
It’s intimately involved in all our movements, from sitting, to standing, running, walking and breathing.
In yoga, it’s at the centre of our practice. It feels good to consciously initiate our movements from our spine and supports us in becoming more integrated and centred in our practice.
This integration informs and benefits our bodies in all movements, complex and simple, so we begin to move with more ease and grace, both on and off our mats.
What to Expect
During this practical yoga workshop we’ll learn more about:
- The anatomy of the spine and its relationship to the whole body
- It’s role as housing and protector of the central nervous system
- How the spine initiates and responds to, our movements
- The delicacy, strength and adaptability of our spines
Finally, we’ll explore the central question:
Can we learn to feel our spine, and relate to it as the central organ of all our movement?
And can this understanding help us to become more centred and integrated, in all our movements, simple and complex?

Who’s it for?
The workshop is suitable for experienced practitioners (minimum of 6 months regular practice) and will be especially useful for those who want to explore spinal health through integrated movement throughout the whole body; this includes yoga teachers and teachers currently in training.
Note: Workshop is suitable for anyone currently working with chronic, spinal issues, including disc issues. Anyone with newly diagnosed or acute issues should seek advice from a qualified medical practitioner.

Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. With over 35 years of practice, her Scaravelli inspired practice and teaching focuses on deepening physical awareness and alignment to reveal the natural freedom of the body, particularly the spine.
She is an attentive and thoughtful teacher and highly skilled at adapting poses to accommodate all levels and types of students so that everyone leaves class feeling that they have made a fresh discovery about their yoga practice.
She’s been a member of the Triyoga teacher training faculty and the Teachers Advisory Committee and teaches regular weekly classes and workshops in London.
