Julie Pearson – Baby Bumpkin

My style and approach to teaching yoga…
Yoga for me is relaxed and about the journey, listening to your own body and accepting where you’re at in that moment. I love that it can be playful and fun as well as relaxing. It’s more than the physical side – it’s all about mental wellbeing too.

My experience and training so far…
I’ve been practicing yoga personally for more than 20 years and it has changed my life, and still changing it now. From being a shy, anxious child yoga taught me to accept myself for who I am, building up my mental strength and confidence. I like to do self practice and meditation daily.

In 2014 I did a Dharma workshop (finding your truth) with Whitespace which led me in 2015 to train to be a children’s and Baby yoga teacher, bringing together the 2 passions in my life. I have since taken my advanced children’s teacher training, and yoga for children with additional needs. It is my quest to introduce children to the benefits of yoga and mindfulness from an early age.

The special quality I bring to Whitespace …
I bring friendliness, fun and, a dedication to providing good developmental support through yoga to all new babies and their parents with our Baby Bumpkin Programme.

My favourite thing about working at Whitespace…
The friendly community and staff, and that feeling of calm when you walk through the door…

What’s your favourite pose and why?
Definitely Pigeon, I love feeling the release in my hips and how it leaves you feeling long after practice has finished.

The biggest thing Yoga has taught you?
Acceptance, self-love and that it’s ok not to be super flexible!

A fun fact about me…
Before marriage and children, I spent 10 years working in the TV and film Industry, in the costume departments of many favourite shows and soaps, such as Eastenders, The Bill, Silent Witness, to name just a few. Oh, I could spill some beans…
