Fiona Scarry – Pilates Teacher

Style and approach to teaching Pilates…
My teaching style is informative and fun, with a continual emphasis on the principles of Pilates. I like to make sure that students understand why we are doing a specific exercise and how it is benefiting them, so that they can apply their new understanding to their every day movement and activity. This is how the benefits of Pilates are truly experienced!

My experience and training so far…
I was introduced to Pilates in 2005 as part of a rehabilitation programme and it was paramount in helping me to recover from several injuries. Thereafter, I began to realise the benefits it provided to other areas of my life in particular, helping to combat both the mental and physical strain of working office based, in a corporate environment. I took the plunge to change my career in 2014 and completed my training to qualify as a level 3 mat work Pilates teacher. I have been teaching (and learning) ever since! It was one of the best decisions I ever made!

The special quality I bring to Whitespace…
I appreciate that students have differing needs and goals, and I therefore provide them with the opportunity to work at a level that is right for them by offering modifications and progressions with each exercise. I like students to leave my class feeling fantastic – stronger, taller, energised and more flexible, and as though they have worked hard without being unkind to their bodies!

My favourite thing about working at Whitespace…
I was attracted by the stunning, spacious, light and airy studios, and the engaging team! I enjoy the friendly students, from whom I learn something every time I teach a class!

A fun fact about me
My favourite Pilates ‘work out buddy’ is my 3 year old boy who joins in with me almost every day! Leg Pull is so much more challenging with a toddler climbing on your back ?
