Baby Yoga Classes

1. Baby Bumpkin classes are focused on the unique relationship between the parent/carer and the baby. Although there is some yoga inspired movement (stretching, laughing, moving and relaxing), this is done in conjunction with the special stimuli Julie uses during the session. This is based around a different story each week, which is woven together with music and play to stimulate the baby.

All the techniques Julie teaches are specifically designed to promote relaxation, aid digestion and develop bonds with the baby in a cosy supportive environment.

2.Baby & Me classes are specially designed to give Mums some much needed time to enjoy a gentle, post-natal yoga sequence, in the company of their baby. This helps to strengthen and tone the body after birth, including some work on pelvic floor exercises, releasing tense shoulder and back muscles, and stabilising the pelvis. While Mums are enjoying some me-time there is music and movement to keep the babies happy and content.

The studio is a safe, confidential space allowing for a very relaxed and fluid class, with space and time to feed and change babies whenever needed.

The classes combine storytelling, music and simple baby yoga movements demonstrated with the fun Baby Bumpkin doll. The emphasis is on giving babies the opportunity to explore movement and their senses.
The stimulating environment gives all the babies, from 6 weeks through to crawling, a great physical foundation to development. The unique story structure provides parents/carers with lots of ideas on how to communicate and play with your baby at home.

Parents/carers are guided through the movements and there’s also time for tea and chat amongst the group in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Each week explores a new adventure with Baby Bumpkin to stimulate your baby’s senses, this will

  • Encourage early sensory processing skills
  • Nurture their communication and social skills
  • Provide a unique and special bonding experience for both of you

The classes include gentle stretches for mum and baby, as well as providing creative techniques and ideas to play with your child at home. We use music, multi-sensory props, rhymes and fun to bring the stories to life!

Julie Pearson

Julie is Mum to two girls, now 10 and 12yrs old, and growing up too fast! When her own daughters had started school she was looking for something to combine her two passions for yoga and children. In 2015 she found her solution and started teaching yoga with Tatty and Baby Bumpkin. She’s also a Brownie Leader and a volunteer at a local children’s mental health charity.

Her personal journey with yoga began more than 20 years ago. Having been a shy and anxious child, she realised how yoga both calmed and instilled her with confidence. She practices every day and is passionate about passing on her love of yoga, and its benefits to children from birth onwards.

What to expect

Baby Bumpkin is a very relaxed, informal way to have fun with your baby, whilst at the same time really helping with their physical and emotional development.

Physical Development:

  • Tummy time
  • Side lying
  • Appropriate sitting and standing postures
  • Aids the baby’s digestion, and other physical issues

Early Fine Motor Skills:
Whatever stage your baby has reached, the movements and props help to encourage hand and finger movements which are the basis for more complex skills

Emotional Development:

  • Throughout the class the babies are encouraged to respond to each each other
  • Massage and relaxation help to calm and promote a healthy sleep / waking cycle for your baby

Cognitive Development:
Emerging language skills are nurtured through movement, exploration of sensory props and gestures

For mum/ carer:
Time for tea and coffee, and a supportive group chat at the end of each session.

Who is it for?

The classes are designed for parents and carers to guide their babies through the movements, and then enjoy time for a tea and chat with the group after the session. It’s a very relaxed, safe environment in our cosy dedicated yoga studio. The class is suitable for babies from 6 weeks old through to crawling.

Enjoy the community of other new parents while in a comfortable setting where you may feed or change your baby as needed. Dads are very welcome too, and will benefit equally from the yoga and the interaction with their baby.

Classes are suitable for babies who are six weeks to fully mobile (crawling)If you recovering from a c-section, it is advisable to wait until the scar is fully healed.

My style and approach to teaching
I provide a calm and nourishing space for you to take time out to connect with your baby, bringing you gentle movement, breath work and relaxation.

My experience and training so far
I trained with Lushtums antenatal yoga trainers on my maternity leave, qualifying earlier this year. Since completing training I have taught twice a week, and am loving every minute. The perfect thing about this job, is the constant ability to learn, which is what I hope to keep striving towards- constantly learning going forward.
