Pilates is for everyone, whatever your age, body shape or fitness. Pilates at whitespace
will be the right place for you whatever you're looking for: a stronger, healthier back; a
flatter tummy; a more toned, mobile and flexible body; better posture, fitness and
general wellbeing; rehabilitation from injury; or balancing and strengthening the mind
and the body.

In this practical 4wk or 4hr course - designed for students with little or no experience of pilates - you will be introduced to some of the fundamental principles, concentrating on healthy alignment and establishing a deeper awareness of your breathing.  Many people leap straight into larger Pilates matwork classes without understanding these principles and this lack of genuine knowledge about the importance of micro-movements, correct breathing and basic postural techniques can expose you to potential strain, pain or injury in Pilates.

Pilates is an exercise system designed to stretch, strengthen, lengthen, tone and balance the entire body. It improves your posture, releases stress and increases strength and flexibility. Pilates works the deeper muscles in a focused manner strengthening core postural muscles and developing correct body alignment. This stabilises the spine and supports the back.

You will be encouraged to complete hands-on 'homework' between sessions, in the form of a self-directed lesson at home, to review and practise what you learnt during each of the sessions. So you'll be getting into healthier habits immediately! The practice builds week by week, providing a solid foundation and inspiring you for any of whitespace Pilates' Open and Level 1-2 classes.
